Artist Statement
I create abstract contemporary quilts through a process that alternates between planning and improvisation rooted in the exploration of shape, form, line, and colour. Each quilt emerges slowly, guided by an intuitive response to material, composition, and the evolving structure of the work.
Numerous sketches guide and support the design—both before and during construction—allowing the piece to develop through an iterative process of drawing and piecing. This ongoing dialogue between concept and construction creates space for spontaneity, revision, and discovery.
I am inspired by abstract art, particularly the work of painters and illustrators from the 1940s, ’50s, and ’60s. My quilts explore the manipulation of line, spatial relationships, colour, form, and visual balance, aiming to reflect a distilled sense of place and movement in each composition.
I see my work as a record of process, investigation, perception, and response.
